Site Facilities

Gym – The Gym was the biggest I have ever seen, John stated that it held 4 types of all equipment. This Gym was free to anyone with GA Tech access cards, such as Students, Alumni and Staff.

Basketball Gym – GA Tech Rec Centre had 6 Basketball Courts above the swimming and aquatic level. These could be rented for use by any student.

Running Track – Around the Basketball courts was an elevated running track that was 6laps to a mile. This was often is use.

Diving Well and Pool – The swimming level was packed with teams practice for swimming races and diving events.

Leisure Pool – 78Degrees pool which had a lazy river and water slide for GA Tech Students to enjoy.

Career Possibilities

Reinhardt has never had an intern placement at GA Tech Rec Centre and John stated that they accept interns at GA Tech and there is a quick 2 week turn around period where he would be happy to sign someone for the position

What did you learn from the visit?

What was interesting for me was the comparison to a middle of Atlanta big school, compared to Waleska’s Reinhardt.  I also learnt the need for student employment at the Rec Centre as they rely solely on students to work receptions and life guard duties e.t.c

Site Facilities

Field – 3rd Generation Turf, this field included permanent and water washable paint for the outlines of the American Football markings and Atlanta Falcons emblem. Holding a multi-purpose use, this field staged wrestle mania events and music concerts.

Locker Rooms – We visited the Locker Rooms of the Atlanta Falcons which had a Coaches Lounge and Head Coaches Office.

Verizon Suite – Verizon bought a section of the Georgia Dome to stage cell phone deals for big sales and use this as an advertising scheme.

Media Room – The media room had no glass enclosure and is the longest room in the NFL. This is where the press meet to write up match reports and calculate statistics.

Super Suite – The Super Suite was a collective suite where a fan could buy one leather seat in a section of the Georgia Dome and have more space, free buffet and drinks included. In addition this offer was available for 3, 5 and 7 years.

Career Possibilities

Alex the tour guide limited the tour to facilities only and I did not get much information on potential career opportunities. However I do believe there are a lot of opportunities out there at the GA Dome. Event Management is one option, as the Dome offers many different events ranging from Wrestle Mania, Basketball Games and Music Concerts, as well as its usual Saturday and Sunday Fixtures.

What did you learn from the visit?

To be honest, I did not take much Career Related learning from the experience, but it was nice to see the background to the Atlanta Falcons and learn the history behind the Georgia Dome.

Turner Field Summary

Site Summary

Turner Field, Atlanta, GA.

Facilities

Stadium Suites - Dave showed us many available luxury suites which were used as a high class viewing area to watch the game and to eat and drink in the comfort of AC.

Media Box - In the media boxes we were shown the different types of equipment used for all media purpose and the different areas a media specialist would sit.

Delta 365 - An area of the stadium where members paid a fee which would entitle them to a waitered service, table and dining area and AC.

Museum - The museum was loaded with players memorabilia from last years team to the famous world series winning team.

Locker Room - Players circular locker room for superstitious reasons. This included training room and leather sofas for players to relax before the game.

Dug Outs - Telephone system was explained by Dave and we sat in the seats of the famous players themselves.

Career Possibilities

The most valuable career opportunity was that of an Internship. In the museum we were told that The Braves along with the Room and Gwinett Braves offered internships from all different departments of their organisation.

What did you learn?

Most importantly I learned that many different aspects of Major League Baseball are so vital to game day events. Stemming from security to media production and memberships all departments have to work hard to produce a successful event on match day.

In addition to this was the importance of memberships and sponsors. I love hearing about the Delta 365 Club and all the different sponsors such a Coke-Cola that help run the Braves
